my buddylist - why i read them
06/25/03 ~ 6:37 p.m.

i have a lot of people on my buddy list. there is a reason for each and every one of them, and i'm going to explain why. i tried to organize them into subcategories, and they are alphabatized within each one.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
i'll start off with PEOPLE I KNOW:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

design-doll - this is kristin. i met her only briefly when we both lived in livermore, we had mutual friends. i was re-aquainted with her at a party in davis. we crossed paths a few times, and know many of the same people. she's a very interesting person, and i think my interest lies in my fascination with her designing, which translates into her everyday routine. she dresses in her own wonderful style, and i always like to see what she's wearing. she takes beautiful pictures, and makes cool flash movies. i still read her diary because it makes me feel like i know her more than i actually do. i've never met the boys that have broken her heart, i can't console her and make her feel better when she's blue. but i feel like she and i have a connection just through our diaries.

emiry - emily and i met while i lived in livermore. her very close friends are aquatintances of mine. we know some of the same people, we were always at the same functions. emily and i never really bonded, just the two of us. we had enjoyable times, pure saccharin fun, but i was never let in to her heart and mind. i don't really know what goes on with her. i don't understand her. half the time, i have no idea what she's talking about in this diary. i read to try to understand.

isidian - obviously, this is my wonderful, loving boyfriend. i'm happy he started writing in his diary again because i love to read his thoughts. i like to know what goes on in that brilliant head of his when he's not talking. usually his entries spur a deep discussion, which i enjoy to no end. i love being philisophical.

jeffy - jeff and i met in english class, our junior year of high school. the five of us who sat in the corner dubbed ourselves "the happy corner." of the 4 other people, i knew him the least. we hardly talked. that summer, i got a job at the nature company, and when school started and i saw him again, i told him to come apply. by then, my friend sera had a massive crush on him. they ended up dating, and subsequently breaking up, but he and i grew to be closer friends during that time. we hung out at work, at school, and in the rain. we shared our love for dawson's creek. then he went off to uc davis, and 3 years later, so did i. since i've been here, we haven't hung out that much. our friendhsip stayed alive through the internet - aim is our friend. he actually re-introduced me to diaryland (i had an inactive account) and made my first custom template for me. he use to write in his diary daily, and had a huge fan base. now his updates are sporadic at best, and i am sad. (he also belongs in the "bee

justin1981 - i met justin at a swing dancing place. we sort of met through mutual friends, but i think it was more just from dancing together. (he's a wonderful dancer, by the way. he makes me look good!) we'd see each other weekly, tuesday nights, and eventually, we became actual friends. we went to the jazz fastival together in 2001, and i brought my friend brooke. they dated briefly, so i got to know him a little better. even after they broke up, he and i have kept in pretty good touch. sometimes he gets me to go dancing, but mostly, he'll come over, to go to parties or just to visit me. he's a great friend and i know i can always count on him

suziej - i'd heard of sue long before i met her. firstly, jackson had gushed about 'sue with the pink hair' in his now defunct diary. secondly, many people i knew from livermore would mention her. i figured out that she moved to town not long after i had moved away. so, one night, i went to a silent film stars concert, and sue was there. she had everyone over to her house afterwards, and i made friends with her roommate, bree. sue and i crossed paths occasionally because of bree, and we also chatted online sometimes, but i really got to know her this year through DMS. she's actually a lot more involved with the club than i am at this point. anyways, i read sue's diary to see what's up with her and the DMS peoples. i am so very glad that her entries are happy now, she went through some bad times last year, but i think life is finally working out for her. :)

the next category is PEOPLE I MET THROUGH DIARYLAND:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
bobbipuzel - i can't recall how i originally found her diary. it was random clicking. i remember thinking it was cute, and checking out her website, too. it was there i found two things - 1. we had the same birthday and 2. she loves penpals and had her address posted. thus, i sent her a postcard and signed her guestbook. we then emailed, signed each other's books, and wrote back and forth for about 2 years. then i approached her with an idea -- when i went to france, i wanted to see amsterdam, and come meet her! well, it all worked out, and i stayed with her and her husband for about a week. she showed me around, cooked dinner for me, and we had a grand 'ol time (except for the whole purse stealing episode, that stunk.) now we contine to read each other's diaries, and occasional letter writing happens, too. i like her (and her diary) because she is so appreciative of the little things. she is also very giving and just plain nice. she doesn't have a mean bone in her body. she's always one of my favorites to read. =)
oblivia - this was also a random click. i was drawn in by my curiosity of the unknown. oblivia was then a slave, and she not only told stories about her master and their relationship, her master gave her homework assignments in which she would explore her sexuality. she is also a lesbian who was in a serious, long term relationship. she goes to bondage clubs, has group sex, is very open with her sexuality - basically fulfilling a lot of my curiosities. so i lived vicariously through her diary, and eventually, after many guestbook signings, we began chatting. she livesnear seattle, so on a trip up there, she came out and picked me up. she was a total sweetie, and my only regret is that we didn't get to hang out for long. we still chat occasionally, and i always read her diary (and livejournal) whenever she updates.
sesomatto - i am 90% sure i clicked her after she signed jeffy's guestbook. she was right in the middle of a sexcapade with her boss, and of course, that caught my attention. i love reading about sex. anyways. so i signed her book a few times, and eventually, she told me she lived near me. about 2 hours away. so she came to visit, and i took her kareoke-ing. then i went up to visit her with jenn*. then david and i visited. then she came here. we're old buds by now. i also read her locked sex diary (simanta-jo) and her 'stories' and other stuff diary (numbsjm).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
these are my plain RANDOM FAVORITE DIARIES:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
angel-stars - i've read krista's diary for a long, long time. pretty much since i joined diaryland. i even remember how i found her - we're both on the RENT diaryring, and i loved her name. i love angels and stars, and i was so excited, i knew we must have things in common. it's funny because on the outside, we're pretty different. but we have a lot of the same feelings and thoughts towards 'finding ourselves' and she's helped me a lot in the past few months. meanwhile, she's grown a lot as a person, overcame depression, and got over a first love.
angelgirl76 - this is still a rather recent read for me. i found her while reviewing, and was moved by her emotions and sadness. i don't always understand what she's referring to, but i know she's in an unhappy marriage and still pines the loss of 3 children.
cold-feet1 - i can't say much, since this diary is quite anonomous. i don't know that i could do damage, but i'd rather not risk it. basically, my main draw to this one is that she seems to want everything she doesn't have. she's had almost-flings, and told stories of past loves, and doesn't seem happy with her current love. the only thing constant is her love for her son.
elliorange - i have to admit, it was the van gogh layout she used to have that drew me in after she signed my book. then i read an entry about love, and i absolutely loved it. i think what i enjoy most about her diary is her deep thoughts and encouraging words. and then my second favorite thing is when she mixes it up and talks about sex bluntly, which i never expect. heh.
eucalia - she added me as a favorite and it took me a bit to figure out where she found me. then i realized we're both in the sacramento diaryland meetup group. which has never met up, by the way, cuz there's only 5ish people in it or something. i tend to skim her entries everyday, because i've never really gotten who all of the people are in her life (she uses nicknames). sometimes, though, she writes an entry about herself, her feelings, her emotions, and those are amazing.
jenne1017 - i remember when i added her to my buddy list. i'd seen her diary before, she has a cool layout by twiggle back then, and i always recognized it. but the first thing i really read was her 9/11 entry. it was very close to home for her and i was riveted. i started reading back, adn realized that i'd also seen her girlfriend's diary before. i read back to when they met and relived it. i was hooked. now we're friends. we chat online, sign guestbooks a lot, and are deiting together. she started up a diet diary (dietingjenn) and she's doing very well, despite what she may think. EVERY loser has their ups and downs! anyways, i really really like jenn, and someday i hope to meet her. =)
laura-ann - don't remember when i started reading, or how. laura? did you sign my book? did i sign yours? i have no idea. when i started reading, her current stories were about skytrain robbie. they were interesting, funny, and i wanted to keep reading and see if something came of it. nothing has yet, but i've gotten more attached to her diary. of course. she recently added pictures, so now i know what she looks like, too. and i can always count on her to update a lot when i need diaries to read!
lip - sigh. another i can't relaly recall how i found. maybe through jenne1017? no idea. the main draw to her diary was the story of her and jim. it was very cool and i enjoyed it a lot. now i keep reading , hoping for times where the two of them can be together. (they are now! yay!)
lisse - she's still on my buddy list cuz i'm wishing, hoping, praying she'll come back. she recently left diaryand because some bitches basically have an "i hate lisse" club. i don't know why! i first found the87loft and read the whole thing. all of it. that's not normal for me, really. then she moved to lisse as she moved places, and i got to follow the story of her and kevin growing as a couple, saying the "L" word, meeting families, and getting engaged. her writing is wonderful, her stories light and funny, and i really, really miss her diary.
mentalblank - this is a friend of jenne1017. she had a wedding diary that sandandwater designed, and i was totally into reading about the wedding. i didn't often read her normal diary (cuz it was on diary-x), but sometimes. then she had an issue and started a new one, for both wedding and everyday life. i'm enjoying so far, though i hang on for the wedding tidbits. plus she joined MIM too, i just wish she'd post more.
sandandwater - i was reaquanted with her diary when i started reading jenne1017's, cuz this is her girlfriend. i'd read it before, and didn't even know she was a lesbian. now i read it mostly as a companion to jenn's, but also because i'm curious to know her her life will pan out. will she be a restaurant owner someday? i hope so, if that's what she really wants.
srch4balance - i found this while reviewing and was sucked in. i don't know what drew me to someone who was cheating on her husband, because i am so totally against that. but then she started havign lots of sex and crazy adventures (in bathroom stalls! with girls! you name it!) and my dirty little mind can't get enough.
taxidriver - another reviewing find. (see? you should get a review! you get new readers!) i really like her style of writing. i like how she picks incredibly random topics and just goes off. i join her in hating the creepy guy who lives next door. i wish she'd update more.
yvette18 - i *think* michelle found me. actually, i think she IMed me first, before i started reading her diary. we both go to UCs (well, i did, past tense) and we both love harry potter. we bonded as we were going through our finals at the smae time. she's got a wonderful lighthearted look on life and is loving and caring and giving. i really admire her.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
the next category are THE BEERMATES:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
twelvebeer - i was intorducted to 12% beer when jeffy got added. so i check the quotes from time to time. these writers are hilarious.
anniewaits - she signed my guestbook once, is a UCD alumni, and loves RENT (the musical). i read her diary a few times, laughed a lot, and was hooked. she got added to 12% because she rules, but i am proud to say i knew her when. she's been crazy busy though, and doesn't write much anymore.
mollyx - it took me a second to remember how i met molly. we were both reviewers for r-e-v-i-e-w and ended up chatting. she has a duck, i'm obsessed with wanting a pet duck. so it just clicked. then she got added to 12% also. see, i pick the best diaries.
rudey - i clicked her page a few times when her quote on 12% was funny, and eventually, i was clicking her page so much, she got added to my favorites. plus her name is cool. kehla.
sundry - i clicked her from 12% too, and when i read her entry about daruma-san (her weightloss nazi doll), i had to add her. i like the way she writes about cat and dog, and makes up conversations and such. i also like that she puts pictures in a lot of her entries.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
here are my WEIGHTLOSS FAVORITES:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
aboutmarysww - she left me a guestbook message. she's at about the same spot as me in her loss, i think she weighs a little less. i draw inspiration from her.
ajc202 - she hasn't written in awhile, but i like how she "keeps it real." i found her link on dough-boy's page.
amysloss - she added me to MSN messenger when i asked people to on my diary. we chatted, and i designed her a new layout. she pointed me to her pictures and i was SO impressed. she's lost over 100 lbs, has very little to go, and is a motivation train! she works out like an animal. she tends to be a little obsessive, and she's working on that. i like to hear what is going on in her head - cuz that will be me in a few more months.
barenaked500 - how did i find megan? i don't remember. but i signed her book because i read her 100 things and we had SO much in common. then i learned that she had lost almost 100 lbs (she has now! yay!) and was excited about that. she joined a weightloss board i belong to, making it mine (hereafter known as MIM). she's a sweetie, and i get a lot of tips from her.
ba99tj - bethanne is a moderator at the 100lbs club board on 3fatchicks (3FC). she struggles with her weightloss a lot, with reasons why she sabatoges herself and she really thinks about things. i feel she's had many a realization FOR me.
dough-boy - found him through amysloss, and was drawn in by a few thigns. 1. a male weightloss diary - interesting to see the other perspective, 2. his rant about stupid weightloss diaries for people who want to get froma size 4 to a size 2, and 3. he's a computer person, like me.
eudoria - she IMed me with some questions about weightloss. i answered them, then added her to my favorites and began reading. her diary isn't really about weightloss, though. i relate to her because of the live-in-boyfriend thing.
enchancea - she signed my guestbook, so i checked her out. she just graduated from high school, is semi-gothic, from what i gather, and is trying to lose weight, but just hasn't found her rhythm yet.
harakiri - i met sarah through MIM and i just adore her. she's cute, smart, witty, and has a sense of humor. live isn't exactly hanging her roses all the time, but she's made the best of it. the unexpected eviction comes to mind. she ended up getting a better apartment and handled the whole situation brilliantly. she's in school too, so for the lest couple months, i felt her pain about classes and papers and finals. we're on the same page for a lot of things, and i feel like i've bonded with her.
kaire - i'd seen her diary a few times, but didn't really get to know her until she started up MIM. from the board, i've really gotten to know her personality, her thoughts, fears, emotions... she lets us all in to her world. she's clawing her way through self-relaizations and is really showing me what sort of issues can really contribute to weight problems. hearing her stories really keeps me on my toes, to watch for warning signs in myself. mostly, i feel like i learn a lot from kaire.
lorster - the other creator of the MIM board, i read her mostly for a refeshing breath of sarcasm, wit, and dry humor. she really says it how it is, and doesn't dwell on the frivoulous.
maiarayne - i was first attracted to her site by it's beautiful layout at the time. we exchanged a few gb messages, but i got to know her on the MIM baord. her internet access has been limited lately, so she hasn't been posting on the diary or the board at all, and i miss her tremendously.
manyfires - don't remember how i found this diary, but i am SOOOO glad i did. it may be one of my top 5 favorites on this list. dani is the picture of determination and motivation. i've just recently lost to her starting weight, and i want to follow her lead and become an athlete like she is. when i can run 6 miles in an hour, i'll attribute it to her. her pictures and stories and plans always put me in the mindset for success.
projectme - she signed my book, so i paid her a visit. (i do that a lot, huh?) anyways, she's another who is at almost the exact spot as i am. she's lost about 50, and is hovering around 200. i actually started reading her normal diary (captvfirefly) and got so wrapped up in her life there, that the diet diary is really just a supplement.
rdhdprincess - i followed the crowd. many of my favorite weightloss diaries linked carrie. i found out why. she's hilarious. even in a depressed state, her attitude shines through. she tells funny stories (walmart and the stuck wa-wa balls come to mind) and is even lighthearted about her weightloss. and even though i don't know her exact numbers, she's lost a TON of weight and is already a success in my book!
sarahsundae - i *think* she signed my book... yeah. i checked out her webiste first, and was amazed by her awesome pictures. she's done terrifically. but there are some things about her that makes her one of my favorite losers. 1. she's given herself 3 years to lose the weight. it's never coming back. 2. she loves her cats and her husband. we're a lot alike in that respect. 3. she's SO REAL. she shares what she's feeling, and admits that life isn't perfect even after a lot of weight loss. she gets frustrated, it's not easy, and her body isn't perfect in her eyes. this is EXACTLY where i will be in a few months and her diary is like a portal into the future. sarah, you are an inspiration to me, imperfections and all. you are more of a role model than anyone who has lost it so easily - because my journey is much more like yours.
simplyjaneen - she hasn't written in months. i keep her on here because i hope she'll write, and because i correspond with her on MIM. she's dealing with tough stuff right now - she's engaged, and planning the wedding alone because her fiance has been overseas for over a year. he's coming home in a few months though, and i am so, so happy for her.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
these are COLLABS I BELONG TO:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
onthehour - it's hasn't happened yet, and i'm antsy. you take pictures to illustrate your day, ranther than writing an entry. the first one is july 17th. it's gonna be great.
pieces-ofyou - i joined this after seeing bobbi jo write for it. there's a topic a week, and it really helps me get out of the "today i did this" grind. it makes me think and share and it's good stuff.
r-e-v-i-e-w - not a 'collab', but i belong to it because i'm a reviewer. once i was the owner, but i can't handle it. in fact, i've taken a little break from reviewing because of all the stress. i'll start up again, i like doing it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
these are MY OTHER DIARIES:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
nowayout - my dream diary. it's becoming more and more rare that i remember my dreams in great detail, so the entries in here are few and far between. i still like having it to record the occasional crazy nighttime adventure though.
hollysdiet - my diet diary. i update it a few times a week, not every day. i use it in conjunction with my dieting website, where i track my exercise and weightloss and all that. it's good for me to have a record of what i'm going through with this major life change.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

whew! that's all of them, for now. thanks for writing guys, i'll keep on reading!
