p-o-y: choices
03/20/04 ~ 9:57 a.m.

"People have this idea that what they do changes who they are. A married man has an affair and thinks, now I've become a bad person. As if something has changed... You do what you do. Not without consequences for other people of course, sometimes very grave ones."
~ Quoted in the book :: The Dive From Clausen's Pier by Ann Packer

Topic ~ March 13 - 20: Is it helpful to regard your choices as right or wrong ones? Or do YOU define them more than THEY define you?

mostly, i don't see things as RIGHT and WRONG. i'm a big believer of the gray. i mean, there are things in the WRONG category (i.e. murder) and things in the RIGHT category (i.e. saving a life) but many things fall somewhere in the middle.

because of this, i don't think that your choices can define you as GOOD or BAD. just as there are people who may be GOOD (mother teresa) and BAD (ted kazinsky), there are many people somewhere in the middle.

i'm no saint, but i'm no serial killer either. i like to think i am a good hearted and good natured person, falling on the upper end of the gray spectrum, and that i try to make the best choices i can... but doesn't everyone see themselves as good? we all see the world from our own eyes and we usually feel that we are right.

so really, all i can do is do my best and make choices that work for me.
