100 things

the job market, new years, and i love david
12/30/02 ~ 11:18 a.m.

i'm still sick. and not happy about it. i *really* want to be at home in bed. with david. but no, i'm at my desk. work. grrr.

yesterday was supposed to be my cleaning day but i went to the movies with jenny. we saw maid in manhatten. cheesy, cutesy, but not bad. whatever. but i felt bad cuz i left david working on my car, took his car, and was gone all afternoon. so i returned home with groceries for a nice dinner and flowers. =) i got him some pretty carnations. i rule.

so we had a yummy sausage dinner and watched princess bride. and went to bed. it was a nice night. david is so amazing. i love him sooooo much.

so, my new years plans. they are to return to livermore and hit a party that sounds like it will be tons of fun. i'll get to see amy, justine, sera, sue, and tons more friends, i'm sure. i'm going to get to show off livermore to david and jeannine too. =) plus dinner at amy & j's parents house is NEVER to be passed up. there's always good food, and funny, funny conversation. guaranteed.

i got a call from my new job, they want me to start on monday! wow. i'm excited though. i *real* computer science job, yay!

this is where my cousin's jobs come in. my cousin brent is 28. he went to the same college as me, in computer science. he ended up not finishing because he took a job with a small company, liquid audio. he made tons of money there, but they were starting to go under, and he jumped ship and landed an awesome job with ebay. the thing that worried me is this -- he's been lucky. he says that people who were at the top of his class, and actually got their degrees, aren't getting jobs right now. he even hired some of them at liquid audio, and had to end up laying them off -- even though they were great workers. i wasn't that worried because i don't want a dot-com job... but i wasn't realizing that the dot-coms affect everything else. brent explained that when dot-coms aren't buying things, the software and hardware companies suffer. even places like HP and intel are knocking on ebay's door, begging for business. so it's not looking good.sure, the market is going to go up, but what are david and i going to do in the meantime?

hopefully this internship will help me out. and my cousin did let us know that if we need it, he could have some hook-ups with ebay, but we'd have to work in san jose. uck. david and i are going to avoid silicon valley as much as possible, but we might have to suck it up for a few years, just to get our feet in the door and our names out there.

no use worrying about this now... i've still got 9 more classes to pass. once i'm out of school, any old job will do -- as long as there is no homework, no grades, and IT pays ME, rather than vice versa. heh.
