100 things

i finally told them
07/06/04 ~ 1:20 p.m.

yesterday was a lovely day. it was a paid day off work, so it was just that much sweeter. david had to work a 1/2 day, so while he was gone, i got the organizing bug and attacked our bedroom. it helped work off some of the frustration from deleting the pictures on sunday. by the time he got home at 1, i'd turned our bed around, moved a small dresser from the computer room in, moved the big dresser across to the other side, displaced the bird in favor of the TV, and was stuck trying to make it all work. he got home, allowed me to add a small table for the TV, and put the bird back on the big dresser. now our room is ass-backwards and i like it. sometimes, you just need a little change.

then we suited up, sunblocked, and headed off to spring lake. they have a man-made "swimming hole" that is filtered and not actually attached to the real lake, but is lake-like in appearance and surrounded by sand. i swam a little and sunbathed a lot, while david tired himself out trying to swim laps. i'm still not very tan, though. it just doesn't occur to me to sunbathe often living here: weather in the 80's-90's just doesn't seem hot enough to me. i grew up in 100+ weather! (and i miss it when the nights are so cold, too).

after about 3 hours, we came home and goofed on our computers for awhile. we made taco salads for dinner (mmmm) and watched a video that david had recovered from his parents' house: mystery men. i'd never seen it. it was utterly stupid, silly, and cheeseball-ish, but totally good for a laugh. then we took our completely relaxed but tired selves to our backwards bed and slept soundly. aaaah.

so after a day like that, i hate being at work! i got my 6-month review today. i scored a 3% raise (which works out to 43 cents) and then dropped the knee surgery bomb on them. i made it sound like i'd only found out this morning. anways, they're not mad, just scrambling to make sure the office will be covered in my absence.

as for me, the surgery date is now just a month away, and i'm nervous. about going under, about my donor ligament getting infected, about the pain, and about how difficult recovery will be. i'm trying to keep my "eye on the ball" so to speak, and focus on how great it will be AFTER recovery: i'll be able to do things i've been very limited in these past 2 years. i'll be able to RUN and JUMP and even SKI again!

and sure, i'll get bored at home eventually, but right now, the prospect of being home for 6-8 weeks getting paid at least partial paychecks doesn't sound half bad!
