sigh, weekend recap
03/28/05 ~ 1:52 p.m.

meh. leanne said she was going to go home for a nap at lunch... now she's changed her mind because she has too much work to do. wah. i was looking forward to an hour to myself. at least she has appointments from 3 pm on.

tonight i'm going to hang out with mariah. she's taking me with her to curves - i've never worked out there and i figured an extra workout is always good. especially with all that easter food, right?

oh yeah - i promised to write about my weekend. saturday we had our fun IKEA trip, then we got to my grandma's at 6:30. we had lasagna and talked and played some cards. david and my grandparents really get along well. the next morning we had tea and coffee cake and talked some more because we didn't leave for easter brunch at my great aunt's house until 12. over there we were really well fed and had lots of fun conversations. it's funny to hear stories of how my grandpa, grandma, and great aunt amused themselves when they were younger. they used to hang out at the airport a lot, and dress up like celebrities. haha.

we left and went to my mom's house at 3. both of my brothers had managed to get out of the day - joe went with a friend to reno for the weekend and chad opted to go to his girlfriend's family function instead. so it was just me, mom, david, and those grandparents. kinda boring, really. we ate and watched part of shark tale but then my mom got distracted by discovering that the bunny rabbit had chewed through some wires. not good. anyways, then we endured the traffic from hell to get home, played on our comupters until 11, and went to sleep.

holiday weekends with the family are always taxing and really not as fun as i'd like them to be.

IKEA love
03/28/05 ~ 7:19 a.m.

ok, so, the trip to IKEA was a success!!

i found a desk that i loved and totally got it! it's not the one i showed last time, but i cannot for the life of me, find it on any IKEA site (no matter which country i try). although the name of it is FLARKE, like this bookcase, it apparantly does not exist.

i'll try to give you an idea, though.

it's a cross between what i posted before, the MIKAEL computer unit and another one, the HANNES:

MIKAELHANNES

the finished product is the same colors as the MIKAEL and the same width i think (about 31"), but has no wheels or computer castor like the HANNES. it was $24.99, so a better price than both!

and the best part? david liked my choice so much, and was so impressed with the price, that he bought one as well! that will make our computer room look very cute, with the matching desks. awwwww. and plus it will add at least another 20" in which to fit a guest bed eventually.

for right now, our computer towers will sit on the outside of the desks, and i haven't decided on the perfect holder for them. there's a computer tower unit that goes with the FLARKE, but it's not perfectly what i want. it has a shelf where i'd like a drawer. i like this one:

it's the MIKAEL computer unit. see the drawer at the top? there's just a little shelf on the other one, which isn't as functional to me. only thing that's not perfect about this one is that it's 2" shorter than the FLARKE desk. which i guess would still look ok, if done right.

david's thinking he may eventually get a laptop, so he might not want one of these. and also he's thinking that i might just dump junk in the drawer, so it would be better without it. he could be right. anyways, they were on backorder at the store, which made the choice easier. after setting up the room and using it for a bit, if i decide i want the computer unit, i'll just order it online.

anyways, i am SO HAPPY we went TO the store, instead of just ordering online. i got exactly what i wanted, and obviously, it doesn't even exist for show on their website, even though they show products not available for online order. i'm not sure what's up with that. but also, we got one other great steal:

a SLIPAD knife set. cheap ($10!!!), but nice and functional. it includes: 13" bread knife, 11" cook's knife, 13" cook's knife, 7 1/2" paring knife and 9" utility knife. we figure it will do until at least this summer, when we plan on investing in a good ginsu knife set when they're on sale at the fair.

so yeah, successful trip. we're planning on assembling them tuesday night, and then there will be new after pics, of course!!

back forth
