fourth of july fiesta!
07/05/01 ~ 10:15 a.m.

hi everyone! how was your fourth of july? hope it was as fun as mine!!

tuesday we got off work at 3, and sarah, jon, brooke, and i met justin at my house. we got the cars packed up and headed out to davis. we picked up mike and jenny, switched cars from justin's to mike's in favor of the a/c, and were on our way. we made good time and checked into our hotel. we all got changed, and drove to the theater. we ate pizza at SOMA pizza (justine-- this is the one i took a picture of for you once!) and then walked to the theater. jon went back to the hotel cuz he's not cool enough to appreciate RENT. we looked at souvenirs, sarah got a magnet, and the guy gave her a free candle cuz it was slightly damaged. it's worth $15 though! it's white, has the RENT logo on it, and says "would you light my candle?" on it. it's awesome.

we went up to our seats, which, although were very high up, were still good. they were in the center, and we could see the stage just fine. the show was awesome, of course... i mean, not *quite* as electric since i saw it less than a month ago, but i still got teary eyed during "goodbye love". (this mimi is SO good.) it was sarah's first time, and she was amazed.

after the show, we went out to stage door again. *this* time, we talked with mark (he wanted us to come to a club and watch his band! but it was 21+), saw benny, joanne, collins, mimi, roger, and some extras, and took pictures with angel and maureen. this maureen (who is awesome, by the way) is only 21 years old! how successful for a 21 yr old! and this angel, shaun earl, is an actor too. he's in bodyguard with whitney houston. then jon picked us up, and all 7 of us went to sleep in one motel 6 room! =)

the next morning, we got up at 8-ish, people took showers, we ran to the grocery store and bought BBQ goods, met heather and travers, and the 9 of us headed to the beach. it took us forever to get there; a 3-car caravan in san francisco is near impossible. i was with heather and travers, sarah and jon were in one car, and mike, jenny, justin, and brooke were in another. we ended up losing mike's car and they got to the beach and unpacked about an hour before the rest of us. we couldn't find parking and eventually illegally parked pretty far from the beach. once that was over, we all walked down and got set up on the beach.

it was a little chilly, as s.f. is, but then the sun came out and it was nice. we ate hamburgers (or garden burgers!) and hotdogs, chips and dip, and cookies. we ran around in our suits, played frisbee, volleyball, beach horseshoe, and a bunch of other beach games we had (taking pictures the whole time, of course!) we also buried justin and made him a sand mermaid with huge breasts (think friends....). we stayed for quite awhile (as is reflected by our sunburns) before splitting up and leaving. sarah and jon went home, travers and heather went to a friend's house, and the other 5 of us went to eat at popeye's (which is basically KFC) and headed for davis. heather called on our way, and said that the friend fell through so they wanted to hang with us again. when we got back, justin and brooke went home, jenny, mike, and i took showers, and joined up with heather and travers again. we headed back to roseville for a free fireworks show.

we got to the fairgrounds a little late- it was 9:15 and the show was supposed to start at 9:30. there were people *everywhere* and no parking. we managed to park in a shopping center parking lot and just started walking to where we could see fireworks. we though it was the show, even though it was early. we were standing by a field and eventually travers noticed a sign on the field that said "fireworks launching area. please stay clear" or something like that. so we walked to the end of the field and right at 9:30 -- BOOM!

there were fireworks LITERALLY right above our heads. ashes falling on us and stuff. we moved across the street, laid on our backs in the grass, and watched the show right above us. it was beautiful- the coolest show any of us had ever seen. it was very moving (mike was all mushy and kept telling us all how much he loved us...) and the perfect end to a perfect holiday.

we walked back to the car and picked up "souvenirs" (the cardboard casing around the fireworks) off the ground. then they drove me home as we sang along to " free fallin' ". then mike, jenny, heather, and travers went home to davis.

i had an excellent time and i'm pretty sure everyone else did too. i loved that everyone got along, even though i was the only one who knew everyone. heather is awesome and i think i lucked out with a perfect roommate! and i want to hang out with sarah and jon more. they're fun.

all in all, the best word is PERFECT. i didn't think last year's fourth of july could be topped (the whole housesitting adventure) but it surely did. love you all,

~holly~

p.s. i swear when i get the pictures back, i'll scan them in and show you all our fun time!
