car on hold
03/14/04 ~ 5:33 p.m.

so, during chinese cooking class yesterday, david gets a call from the saturn dealership. a car got traded in that fit our qualifications pretty darn well.

we said under 50,000 miles, relatively new, not that ugly champagne color, and in our price range ($5500 ish). pretty much exactly what we owned: a blue 99 basic model with 38,000. we bought it last summer for $5900 and put 12000 miles on it. it's now worth $5400.

it's a white 99 SW1. here's a pretty close approximate: example. just one year newer and one model up. so yes, it's a station wagon. no rack on top. bonus feature: power steering (which our other car lacked). the awesome part? mileage: 22,000!!! for a 99, that is fucking awesome. the price is $6800, slightly high but david can get approved for a loan for the extra $2k over the settlement check.

the car isn't detailed/smogged/ready to sell yet, so we got taken to the back to drive it. how special are we? we liked it, so we took a night to sleep on it (and ponder if i really am okay with a station wagon). we each talked to our parents and bounced ideas off them. we decided we want it. we put a fully refundable deposit on it, which will hold it for us until tuesday. at that point, if we know the settlement check is coming, we can process the paperwork and they will hold our check.

only problem is if the insurance company stars dragging their feet. we're praying they won't because they're putting me up in a rental car and the quicker they get me out, the cheaper for them. also, the body shop will start charging them storage fees and they'll want to avoid that. so i begin badgering them first thing tomorrow.

cross your fingers and toes for us, kay? a car at this price with only 22,000 miles on it doesn't come along every day.
