college 1, me 0
05/20/03 ~ 11:26 a.m.
i'm not a 'college' person.
don't get me wrong, i'm in college, and have
been for 5 years. but there are very few things i like about the lifestyle,
and there are a billion more college stereotypes that i don't fit.
let's
start with the happy.
good things about my college
lifestyle:
* living on my own, or rather, not with my mom.
* i'm kinda stuck. really. anything i think of is something that will just get better after college, like independance and living with david. sigh.
things i don't like about the lifestyle:
* paying rent. but
i'll still be paying it when i'm out of college, so i guess that doesn't
count.
* eating top ramen or spaghetti for every meal
* neighbors
throwing parties or puking outide your window
things i don't like about
the schoolwork:
* homework till all hours.
* having to work while
in college, thus not being able to go to "extra" study hours and losing the
advantage in my classes.
* the fact that pretty much anyone can get a
degree, no matter how stupid they are or how much they cheat.
* the 3
hours of homework for every class hour rule. this means that i should be
either in class or doing homework 48 hours a week.
true stereotypes
that i don't fit:
* i don't go to huge rager parties.
* i don't
drink keg beer (or any beer, for that matter).
* i don't dress like a
hoochie
* i don't have a circle of friends that i met at the dorms, with
a bunch of drama going on
* i haven't starred on an MTV show (ha ha)
*
i don't order pizza 5 nights a week (or leave the box out when the pizza's
gone)
* i don't enjoy dancing at clubs (in hoochie clothes), freaking
strangers, and getting drunk
* i've never used the "tipsy taxi"
* i
don't hang out at coffee shops
things i'd rather be doing:
*
reading a book
* cooking and eating a healthy dinner
* staying at
home and watching a rented video or a TV show
* surfing the web (this
includes diaryland, all my message boards, web designing, etc.)
* taking
pictures
* curling up with the cat (or david, too!)
* cleaning the
bathroom, kitchen, room, etc (well, the CLEANING isn't that fun, but i like
it to BE clean... you know.)
see, i'm an old lady already. i better add
"crocheting in my rocking chair while 10 cats meow around me" to that list.
but really, i just don't enjoy "the college life." i used to be a lot
more social than this. really. i had huge circles of friends, plenty of
drama, all that. i'm tired of it.
i still have a lot of friends. just
look at my cast
page. but truth be told, i don't see them that much. i haven't seen
krystal* in about 3 weeks. same with jenn*, tiffany*, and the gang. some of
them live far away, like jenny*, salina*, ted*, brooke*, and amy*. until saturday, i
hadn't seen heather for about a month, and she lives 2 apartments away! i
saw mike* and sam* a few weeks ago, but only cuz we were asking a favor and
stayed at their place!
i talk to my online friends a lot more. my life
online is happy, comfortable, safe. i can be a lazy bum, stay at home, and
still feel like i got some human contact.
did i have a point with all of
this? i'm sure i did, but it got buried in all those lists. i guess my main
point is:
"i'm (not) a celebrity, GET ME OUT OF HERE!!!"
26 more days.
then 3 months,and we move. i can do this.
