new year's eve report
01/01/05 ~ 2:44 p.m.

so, last night's new years shindig dwindled down to six people: me and david, sabrina and tony, and chris and kelly. we settled at sabrina's house, had pizza, snacks (popcorn, chips, red vines!), and any and all sorts of alcohol, far more than even 6 drunks could have consumed. interestingly enough, i don't think even one of us drank enough to really feel a buzz. but whatever. my diet coke and cocunut rums were yummy anyways.

before we really got started, we socialized a bit with sabrina's roommate, mark, and his friend izzy, who were both wearing suit and tie. they picked up their dates, who were also dressed nicely, and went out for a night on the town, bar hopping and the like. the fun part was that david got to meet sabrina's totally metrosexual roommate. he's so funny. before he left, he made an hors d'ouvre to thorow into our pile of snacks - bread with an olive oil, vinegar, and garlic dip. hee.

after they left, the six of us started playing our first game - loaded questions. we got.. oh i dunno, 2/3 done before most of us were bored and wanted to switch games. so then we talked for while before playing another party favorite - apples to apples. however, we didn't even play that game long enough to decide who would have been winner. distracted much? oh well.

then we watched the ball drop without dick clark, kissed our respective significant others (it was so simple, what with 3 couples), headed outside with out blowers and yelling, saw a few fireworks, and headed back inside.

the funny thing is, all six of us are fairly domestic homebodies. sure, we may have a good time now and again, but we all also work full time, and tend to be in bed by 10 or 11 every night. three of them (sabrina, chris, and kelly) are teachers, even. so by 12:30 am, we were all exhausted, and no one thought we were crazy to call it a night. heh.

in all it was a fun, laid back evening, and i did enjoy myself. i really like chris and kelly (they're friends of sabrina's that i'd not really met before), and sabrina's boyfriend is a great guy (i'd only breifly chatted with him in the past), so really, it was a night of making friendships. what better way to start out a new year?

chris and kely, looking silly

david and i. i'm not a huge fan of my face in this picture...

sabrina and tony. now THEY look cute!

here's to 2005! i hope it proves to be a better year than 2004. and, for the record, i do have resolutions. here they are:

1. lose the last 45 lbs
2. run in a 3k/1.8mi (april/may) and a 10k/6.8mi (oct)
3. accumulate 1 to 2 months salary in my savings account by year end

tough, but achievable. they're all end goals, so the journey along the way will be what i'll be focusing on. eating right and counting calories again for #1, running 3-4 times a week for #2, and putting away extra money each month for #3.

i know, i know. one of these days i'll finally decide that new years resolutions are rubbish. but until then, i might as well try to better myself!

hope everyone had a pleasant new years experience and is as ready for 2005 as i am.

three years ago: then i found a room with a comfy chair that was dark and stared off into space. i drifted in and out of sleep, having crazy dreams about exploding oranges. amy woke me up 2 minutes till the ball dropped, and i drug myself out to watch it. [ed. note: that was the worst new year's EVER.]
