a long-ass update
11/17/03 ~ 11:42 a.m.

so let's see. i didn't update this weekend, did i? well, this weekend was mostly a flurry of working at blockbuster. before i launch into any stories, i'll take this time to fill you in on my coworkers. (i should add this to my cast page, huh?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
kevin - store manager. late 20's. straight edge, mama's boy type. favorite movie is parent trap. is a twin.
kerry - asst. manager. mid 30's. does the schedule. is nice, slightlywhite trash though.
nick - shift leader. 20. big video game dork. shoulder length hair, wears all black when not at work. has proclaimed me his bud.
edgar - shift leader. 19 or 20. moved here from canada within the year. computer geek, very excited that i have my CS degree, constantly cracking lame computer jokes.
heather - full-time. early 20's. kinda trashy. doesn't smoke pot anymore, but acts as if permanantly stoned. is a total space cadet. has yucky boyfriend.
casey - full-time. almost 21. moved here with her boyfriend from arizona. he's a chef. is really nice and cool, i'd love to hang out with her outside of work, but she doesn't seem to cultivate friends beyond the boyfriend.
jim - part-time. late 30's. is his 2nd job, drug/alcohol counselor byday. recovered addict, his stories are amazing. he used to deal meth, and ran some meth labs in houses he bought with drugs. is a very cool guy, possibly my favorite person there.
robyn - part-time, hired same time as me. 19. nick's first girlfriend. is now a lesbian (possibly because it's "trendy", maybe because guystake no interest in her.) very weird, but on purpose. acts semi "goth", giggles a lot, says she has no friends. i wonder why?
cameron - part-time, hired right after me. 20. went to san diego state, paid his way through college by betting on poker. also plays chess. seemspretty cool, i've invited him to play poker with david's friends. also works at starbucks.
so, friday night nick has a "get-together." he wishes it was a party, but really, no one came. it was to celebrate him and his mom selling their house, to which nick will benefit 25% (about $100k. not fair.) david and i went. there were 3 other people there - robyn, nick's friend melissa (who is dating robyn) and beth (some other lesbian chick). all we did was eat greasy food like cheese sticks and garlic fries (made my tummy hurt) and watch bruce almighty (which was ok). then david and nick played an xbox game. the interesting part came later, when by accident, david realized that melissa had been dating his friend kevin (the guy we visited when we went to hollywood last november) back when they were 16, and they'd met before. very, very weird. so there was reminiscing and craziness.
nick also let me in on the fact that he'd caught kevin (the manager) stealing a video game from work. we're all waiting to see what happens. nick called kerry and also the district manager and stuff is in the works. hmm. i do wonder how this will pan out.
saturday david and i had thai for lunch before i went to work from 2-10. nothing eventful happened there, really. david visited me on my lunch break but we got into a little tiff about wedding rings. even though the actual event of ring purchacing is a few years off, david's stressed that he will never be able to pick out one i like. so i try to point out ones i like so he can get an idea, but apparantly i don't point out ones that share a common theme. he just worries that the whole proposal/ring giving thing won't go off as perfectly as i would want it to be and he feels pressured to live up to an impossible fantasy. we decided that it will be a btter idea for him to propose with some other little ring and then we can pick the ring out together after it's happened. i want this because i don't want to pick out the ring beforehand. i want to be surprised if and when he asks me... i don't want to see it coming.
i think it's all worked out... david's still not sure that he'll ever be able to live up to my expectations. i think that security will just take time. i mean hey, at least he won't have to worry that i'm going to say no, right?
sunday i worked 10-4. david's plans got cancelled so he chilled at home and watched football. when i got home i called mariah* because we had plans, but she needed to work on a paper. so david and i cuddled and watched a movie. then amber* called and invited us to go bowling, so we headed out there. that was pretty fun, but we stayed until midnight and i am really, really tired today. i even had some coffee!
tonight's plans are twofold. first, there's a little get-together at david's coworker sean's house. then we will head over to cameron's* house so the boys (cam, david, and will*) can play games.
i like being busy and spending time with friends. =)
speaking of which, i have decided that there will be new year's festivities at our house! it's going to be games (poker, board games, etc.), movies, and beer! so anyone who lived close enought o be willing to drive over is invited, of course. i'll send out official e-mail invtes in a few weeks. mark those calendars, though!
alright, this novel is over. peace out, yo.
